Mr Wuyi Ogunyinka
Wuyi Ogunyinka is the firm’s Managing Partner
He obtained a Bachelor of Law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and further earned a Master of Laws degree (with distinction) from one of the topmost rated maritime law school, Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
Mr. Ogunyinka was called to the Nigerian Bar 1989 and admitted to the New York Bar in 2000. His expertise and experience in law and practice are both extensive and diverse. He began his legal career in Law in Nigeria in 1989, which later extended to the United States. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Society of Arbitrators, United States of America, and the Nigerian Lawyers Association, New York where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors. He is a NY licensed Notary Public and NY licensed Real Estate Broker.
An accomplished arbitrator and mediator, Mr. Ogunyinka received, in the United States of America, advanced training, accreditations and certifications in International and Domestic Arbitration. He serves as an Arbitrator & Mediator on the ADR panel of the United States District (Federal) Court, EDNY. He is on the panel of Arbitrators with the Civil Court of the City of New York, an Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria and has served as an Administrative Law Judge with the State of New York.
Mr. Ogunyinka served as an Arbitrator on the complex Arbitration process resulting from the United States Supreme Court approved $2 billion class-action settlement concerning contentions that agents for the Prudential Insurance Company of America misled policyholders in a 13-year period.
He also served as Arbitrator on the similar Arbitration process which emanated from a $1.7 billion class-action settlement concerning contentions of misleading advertisement and unethical marketing strategies adopted by the insurance giant in dealing with policyholders over a long period. He also served as Arbitrator in several United States District (Federal) Court, EDNY approved arbitrations with multi-million dollar damages potential.
He serves on several multi-million dollar Oil and Gas Arbitration panels involving complex issues of rights and liabilities under Oil and Gas Contracts including Take or Pay Clauses, Force Majeure, Interim Preservative Orders, Jurisdiction, Computation of Damages; etc
Besides arbitration, Mr. Ogunyinka is an experienced litigator, having engaged in several litigations in Nigeria involving but not limited to Election Petitions (represented National Republican Convention); Telecommunications (represented NITEL and subsidiaries); Banks and Finance Institutions (Represented Banks et al); Real Estate (represented UACN, Real Estate Developers, and several other firms and individuals) and extensive Appellate matters.
In New York and the District (Federal) Courts, he litigated for clients in diverse actions including personal injury, medical malpractice; banking; real estate transactions, matrimonial/domestic relation matters, and commercial transactions; He handles all phases of litigations from legal research/analysis; case investigation/evaluation; brief writing; pleadings; complex motion practice; extensive discovery process; settlement negotiation; jury pick; jury and bench trial and appellate practice.
Mr. Ogunyinka also has extensive transactional experience ; incorporation; closings involving real estate, complex loan, sale of business; interfacing with parties/attorneys; negotiation; due diligence; contract preparation; registration and perfection of transaction.
He works with the Board of Directors and Management in ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. He also provides legal and administrative services to several Boards of Trustees and Administrators involved in administration of large and complex Estates in testate and interstate situations.
